The world’s most technologically advanced automated traffic cone truck has won the Victorian Major Transport Infrastructure Authority’s award for innovation.

The MTIA Director General Award follows the official commercial release of the Arrowes invented truck in Melbourne last month after proving its safety credentials.

The launch sparked major interest in the infrastructure industry, with leading New South Wales and Queensland operators requesting demonstrations.

“The Automated Cone Truck (ACT) is a game changer that automatically places and retrieves traffic cones to ensure workers are not exposed to the risk of traffic,’’ said Arrowes’ Executive Director, Ms Lea Ea.

“It has been a long five-year journey to the commercial release of the ACT and that in itself was rewarding. This award is recognition and acceptance from the industry of our commitment, determination and the relevance of the technology for the industry,’’ Ms Ea said.

“The ACT will revolutionise the industry and is set to become the new norm for safe and efficient cone deployment and retrieval both in Australia and internationally. It will rewrite health and safety and operation standards around roading worksites and mean that workers return home safely every day to their family and friends.’’

Road construction and maintenance workers are among the most likely to be involved in a workplace incident in Australia. Research by Safe Work Australia found 63 per cent of fatalities on worksites were caused by being hit by moving vehicles.
